THE EXPERIENCE
The Dessert Room is a reservation-only evening devoted entirely to dessert.
Upstairs at Café Paloma in Den Haag, guests gather around one communal table for a three-course dessert tasting created in collaboration with some of the region’s most interesting chefs, pastry makers, restaurants, and independent creators.
Here, dessert is the reason you came.
THE MENU
Every edition of The Dessert Room is different.
The evening begins with a cocktail pairing, setting the tone for what follows. The first dessert is then served, followed by the second.
Before the final course, a small palate refresh creates a pause and reset — clearing the way for the last part of the experience.
A sparkling pairing follows, leading into the third and final dessert.
Some desserts come from established restaurants, others from independent pastry chefs or emerging makers we think deserve to be discovered. The menu changes continually as new chefs join us, seasons shift, and new ideas find their way to the table.
Guests can view the complete menu, participating chefs, and pairings from the QR code placed at the table on the evening.
THE PAIRINGS
The pairings are part of the experience, not an afterthought.
The evening opens with a cocktail pairing and later moves to a palate-refreshing liqueur. The night's finale is a sparkling pairing served just before the final dessert. Each is selected to complement, contrast, or occasionally surprise.
Guests choose either the alcoholic or zero-proof pairing experience when reserving.
The aim is simple: the drink should add something to the dessert, and the dessert should make the drink more interesting in return.
ONE TABLE
The Dessert Room is deliberately intimate.
Rather than separating guests into isolated tables, the evening unfolds around one shared table. Couples sit beside strangers. Friends arrive together and often leave having met someone new.
There are introductions from the chefs, conversation across the table, plates arriving together, and enough time between courses to actually enjoy what has just been served.
It is polished, but not formal.
It is social, but not forced.
And while every dessert receives serious attention, The Dessert Room itself never needs to take itself too seriously.
MEET THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE DESSERT
Part of the pleasure of The Dessert Room is discovering who made what you are eating.
Our guest chefs and pastry makers are not hidden somewhere behind the kitchen door. Whenever possible, they join us, introduce their creation, and become part of the evening.
For guests, it is an opportunity to discover restaurants and makers they may never have encountered before.
For chefs, it is a room devoted entirely to the course that so often receives the least time and attention.
MAKE AN EVENING OF IT
The Dessert Room itself lasts approximately two hours, but the evening does not have to begin or end there.
Guests may add a light pre-Dessert Room dinner before the tasting and, afterward, stay for our after-drinks experience with a cocktail, specialty coffee, or pot of tea.
Come just for dessert, or make a night of it.
AND THEN WE DO IT ALL AGAIN
No two editions are intended to be identical.
Different chefs. Different desserts. Different pairings. Different people around the table.
What remains is the idea at the heart of The Dessert Room: dessert deserves an evening of its own.
